Best Shampoo for Hair Fall in India (2026): Dermatologist Pick

Best Shampoo for Hair Fall in India (2026): Dermatologist Pick

Can the best shampoo stop hair loss or help in growing those strands back?

The answer is certainly no! Shampoo might not help in reducing hair fall because the contact time is so less that it is unlikely to have a major impact. While shampoos alone are not a solution for stopping hair fall, you could still use hair regrowth shampoos because they have gentle surfactants and contain herbs for hair re-growth.

In this article. We have listed the best shampoo for hair fall that fulfills flowing criteria:

  • Have milder surfactants and do not contain harsh surfactants like SLS

  • Have hair and nature-friendly preservatives like sodium Benzoate; don’t have parabens or formaldehyde-based preservatives.

  • Have effective hair regrowth ingredients, either herbal or cosmeceutical

How to Choose a Shampoo for Hair Fall?

Start with your scalp. For an oily scalp or dandruff, a stronger cleanser or an anti-dandruff active is reasonable. For a dry, itchy or sensitive scalp, choose mild or ultra-mild cleansers.

Read the cleansing agents first. Look at the first few ingredients listed after water. We group them into three tiers: ultra-mild (e.g., decyl glucoside), mild (e.g., cocamidopropyl betaine, sodium cocoyl isethionate), and strong (e.g., sodium lauryl sulfate, sodium laureth sulfate). Sulfates don't cause hair fall, and might be needed in oily scalp.

Prefer anti-advnadrudd shampoo over ar regrowth shampoo: A shampoo with ketoconazole, piroctone olamine or zinc pyrithione clears flakes and itch, and a calm scalp is a healthier base for your hair.

Be realistic about the actives. Caffeine, rosemary, saw palmetto, Redensyl and peptides are popular in hair fall shampoos, but a shampoo is rinsed off within minutes, so do not expect them to work like a leave-on serum. If you want Redensyl, a serum is a better format. See our best Redensyl serums.

Check for hair fall or breakage. Hair that comes out from the root is hair fall. Hair that snaps along its length is breakage, and it improves with conditioner, gentle combing and less heat.

Check the fragrance. Fragrance and essential oils such as rosemary and peppermint can irritate a sensitive scalp, so look for them near the end of the ingredient list.

Always patch test. Try a new shampoo on a small area of the scalp for a few days before using it regularly.

Shampoo cannot regrow hair. Instead, choose one that suits your scalp, like Sebamed for an oily scalp or ThriveCo for a dry one. For hair regrowth, ask your dermatologist about minoxidil for patterned hair loss and consider a Redensyl serum for mild diffuse hair fall.
