Dry skin is more prone to sensitivity breakouts because the skin barrier is breached easily in dry skin, leading to penetration of irritating ingredients. Therefore, intensive hydration and avoiding irritating products are the two key factors to calm dry and sensitive skin. If your skin is itchy, burning, dry and stretched; you should discontinue all the skin care products, cosmetics, and prescribed/not prescribed medicines and follow the skincare routine given in this article.
You should cleanse, tone and moistures (CTM) your skin twice a day with products recommended in this article. Watch this video to know in details about CTM skincare routine:
MORNING SKINCARE ROUTINE
Step 1: Cleanser
A non-soap cleanser that does not foam is best for your skin type. It should be free from fragrances, harmful chemicals, herbs etc.
Cetaphil skin cleanser
Episoft cleansing lotion
Moiz cleansing lotion
Step 2: Toner
You should not use toner on your skin, instead spray rose water and massage to soothe and hydrate your skin. For brand recommendation read this article, Best pure and organic rose water
Step 3: Moisturiser
A bland moisturizer with soothing ingredients can help in restoring the skin barrier along with reducing the inflammation. You should re-apply moisturizer every 2-3 hours during the day to keep your skin hydrated. As soon as your skin feels dry, stretched, or itchy apply moisturizer; this will help in replenishing the lost natural moisturizing factors.
Aveeno Skin Relief Lotion
Bioderma Atoderm Crème
Cetaphil Dam Lotion
Step 4 : Sunscreen
You should use a zinc oxide based physical sunscreen in cream before stepping out in bright sun. No need to put sunscreen indoors.
Aveeno Baby Sunscreen
Neutogena Sheer Zinc Sunscreen
Cetaphil Sun Kids Liposomal Lotion
NIGHT SKIN CARE ROUTINE
In sensitive skin, you really don’t need a separate night cream because your skin might not tolerate Vitamin C, retinols, glycolic acid, azelaic acid or any other active ingredients until it gets calm. You can repeat CTM with same products that you used during the day.
If above skin care regime is not helping in a week or two, then, you should consult a dermatologist immediately, because you need prescription based medicine to reduce inflammation. I personally believe in using minimum possible steroids topically for sensitive skin, because in long term they increase the sensitivity of your skin.
I hope you would try the skin care products given in this article. Do let me know if it helped you!
