In this article we are sharing 5 researched dietary tips- 5 Don’ts to reverse ageing not only for your skin but the whole body:

  • DO NOT over-eat: Studies prove that caloric restriction (CR), without malnutrition, delays the onset of aging and extends lifespan. Ayurveda recommends filling one-third of your stomach with food, one-third with water and one-third with air.

  • DO NOT over or re-heat, prefer food in their natural state: The vitamin and anti-oxidant content of food reduces on heating. Thus, eating food in its natural state/form is highly recommended. A study has showed that the polyphenolic (anti-oxidant) content of foods is easily affected by various methods of meal preparation. For example, onions and tomatoes lose 80% of their initial content when boiled over 15 min, 65% when cooked in a microwave oven and 30% when fried. In French fries or freeze-dried mashed potatoes, no remains of phenolic acids(anti-oxidant) were found.

  • DO NOT eat food with high sugar content: Sugar accelerates aging by the formation of Advanced Glycation End (AGE) that cross-links with collagen and elastin fibers of skin. Certain cooking methods like grilling, frying, and roasting also lead to higher levels of AGEs. Regular consumption of sugar-sweetened sodas might accelerate cell aging.

  • DO NOT consume high saturated fat: Saturated fats like hydrogenated oils, butter, processed meat, whipping creams etc, promote the formation of AGEs. A study reveals that people who eat more butter age early.

  • DO NOT eat highly processed food: Like artificial sweeteners, fast food, refined grains, frozen food, pre-formed packed food items etc. This is because processed food have high level of refined carbohydrates, saturated fats and additives like preservatives, but have low nutrient level.

We have already discussed 3 types of healthy food that promote longevity by reducing AGE(Advanced Glycation products) or ROS ( Reactive oxygen species) in the previous article.
