“Doctor, Which Anti-aging treatments are the best? “

Each anti-aging treatment addresses different aspects of aging skin, may it be Fillers, LASERS, Scrubbing, Peels, BotoxAnti-wrinkle creams, etc. Nonetheless, beside these your lifestyle determines the major chunk of aging skin. This is so because aging of skin is of two types:

  • Intrinsic ageing: Genes contribute to just 20% of the ageing process, they help you estimate and determine at which age you would look old. Wondering how? If your parents had good skin even at a later age then your inherent tendency is to have young skin until late in life.
  • Extrinsic ageing: The rest 80% of your ageing process is controlled by you and the environmental factors, to know more read this article: Wrinkles-can I stop them by changing my lifestyle?

Do anti-wrinkle creams actually help in anti-aging?

Yes it does! Epidermis is the upper layer of your skin that consists of skin cells which constantly moves from deeper layer to uppermost dead layer and then sheds. In your youth, skin cells renew themselves every month thus epidermis is levelled and reflects light equally giving even-toned and glowing look. However, with age, turnover time increases and dead cells do not shed and they heap up forming thick and uneven epidermis thus giving a dull look. Here comes the role of exfoliation by scrubbingpeelsanti-wrinkle creams; targeted on the epidermis and upper dermis. To know more read, Anti-aging cream-do they really work?

How LASERS help in anti-aging?

LASERS are used for aging changes occurring at the level of Dermis. Dermis is the deeper layer that is made of, namely, collagen and elastin. Collagen is responsible for fullness and strength of your skin; hence deficiency of collagen gives thin and sagging look to the aged face. The elastin gives skin its elasticity, thus elastin deficient aged skin is loose and takes longer to snap back after pinching. Since medicines do not reach this deep layer, LASERS are required to address changes in the dermis.

Why do we need fillers for anti-aging?

Fillers help to Deplete the loss of sub-cutaneous fat. Depletion of fat underneath skin makes the skin less firm, such that the cheeks and jaw line start sagging under the effect of gravity. In addition, elastic tissue degenerates with age and no longer holds the skin against gravity leading to drooping of eyebrows, nose, ears, lips, and eyelids. Fillers to some extent can help in reversing these changes.

How does Botox help in antiaging?

When you raise your eyebrows, frown or smile; lines appear on your skin. With repeated actions these lines deepens leading to formation of wrinkles. Thus, injections of Botox to relax muscles that contract during such expressions helps in reducing these wrinkles. Also, the myth that facial exercise reduces wrinkles is also explained, more you use your muscles, more are the chances of wrinkle formation.

Can all the signs of aging be reversed?

The skeletal structure of the face also loses its density and provides less architectural support to the skin; which cannot be reversed by the above methods.
