Acne or pimples usually starts in adolescence and might continue till 25 years of age. Acne can practically ruin your adolescence and post-adolescence by affecting your confidence. Well, for acne prevention is the key!

Therefore,  in this article, I am sharing 15 dermatologist tips that can help to stop/reduce/prevent acne or pimples:

TIP 1: FOLLOW CTM REGIME:

You should follow the CTM regime as discussed in this video:

You should cleanse, tone and moisturise your skin twice a day, Never sleep without washing your face because the dust, dirt and pollutant that settles on your face during the day can clog your pores if left overnight.

TIP 2: KEEP YOUR SKIN SLIGHTLY DRY.

You should not wash your face more than 3 times a day. A lot of my patients say that they keep on washing there face every 2-3 hours. In such cases, you should consult your dermatologist for the prescription of effective oil control medicines because frequent washing of face might damage the barrier of your skin.

Secondly, your face should feel slightly dry after washing your face. If your face feels over dry, then you would get rebound secretions of oil leading to greasy look in few hours.

TIP 3: USE RIGHT HOME REMEDIES

Mild acne can be controlled by home remedies, however, you should know the right way to mix and use natural ingredients. Please click on the link given below for the complete list of home remedies for acne prone skin formulated by me:

TIP 4: DO NOT SQUEEZE, RUB, OR POP YOUR PIMPLES

Well, I always tell my patients NOT to feel or watch pimples in the mirror again and again because you cannot resist squeezing them. Always pat dry your face after washing with soft towel, do not rub.

It is easier to cure your acne, however, acne marks usually need expensive procedures. The major reason for leaving acne marks is the application of undue pressure that pushes the inflammation deeper down in the skin. Your pimple might look flat after squeezing, however, the chances of marks increases immensely.

TIP 5: DO NOT USE SUNSCREEN

Most sunscreen available in the market can increase your acne by clogging your pores. If you have prolonged sun exposure or brown marks on our face, then use water-based sunscreen only.

TIP 6: DO NOT USE THICK CREAMS/ LAYER MULTIPLE PRODUCTS:

For all practical purpose, you should avoid applying creams on your acne prone skin. The only exception is dry and stretched skin. In such cases, you should use thin creams that too in a small amount. Similarly, avoid layering of products.

For example, if you use make-up, then choose a liquid foundation with slight SPF and moisturising feel, rather than putting separate moisturiser, sunscreen and foundation.

Aloe vera is the best moisturiser for acne prone skin. I’Zit Gel is a good option because it has combination aloe vera gel with tea tree oil that can effectively reduce and prevent mild acne.

TIP 7: SLEEP BETWEEN 10-11 PM to 5-6 AM

Avoid late nights and mornings because this can increase your acne by altering the bological rhythm of your body. Most cases of hormonal acne after the age of 25 years occur because of stressful lifestyle and bad eating habits.

TIP 8: EXERCISE DAILY

It is absolutely important to exrcise on fresh air daily. Start by running or brisk walk, then do suryanamaskar and end up be doing breathing exrcise. I have discussed in details about the healthy lifestyle in details in this article: How to get healthy hiar, skin and body- 3 steps guide from Dr Surbhi

Studies have shown that excess of milk products can increase acne. Therefore, do not drink more than one glass of milk in a day. Avoid Chocolates, icecreams, bakery and seets made from milk. You can take lassi, buttermilk and curd.

TIP 9: AVOID EXCESS SUGAR

Beside avoiding sweet items, you should also avoid food that do not tsates sweet but still have lot of sugar like frizzy drink, packed juices, biscuits, cakes, etc.

TIP 10: DO NOT EAT BREAD DAILY

One of my patiet used to eat bread 3 times day, a simple change of shifting to roti/rice brought down here acne breakouts.

TIP 11: EAT 4 COLORS IN A DAY

Vitamins and mineral help in repairing each every tissue in the body including the skin. Veggies and fruits are a good source of vitamins and minerals. Therefore, you should make a point to eat atleast 4 colours of vegetables or fruits in a day, namely, red/purple, green, white, yellow/orange, and white.

Acne can increase with thick occlusive make-up, therefore make sure you use thin BB cream or foundation. Garnier Skin Miracle Skin Perfector BB Daily Anti-Acne Cream is a good choice for acne-prone skin.

TIP 15: CONSULT DERMATOLOGIST

You should consult a dermatologist for acne if you are having

  • Even if one big red nodular pimples
